GGG Drops, KOs Rolls in 4th
Gennadiy Golovkin’s return to the ring was a successful one, as he dropped Steve Rolls in the fourth round to score a knockout victory.
This fight marked Golovkin’s return to the ring for the first time since losing the WBA and WBC middleweight titles to Canelo Alvarez in September. It also marked GGG’s first time competing at 168 pounds.
It wasn’t the easiest win in the world for Golovkin, however. There wasn’t much going in the first round, but Golovkin was clearly the stronger fighter in terms of both footwork and landing punches. GGG continued to do well in the second, landing strong body shots but Rolls landed to the head well in the second and third, even snapping GGG’s head back once or twice.
But GGG ended things with one punch in the fourth, landing a big hook that left Rolls unable to continue.
