GGG Looking To Leave No Doubt In Rematch

Like many in the boxing community, Gennady Golovkin thinks that he won his September 2017 fight against Canelo Alvarez.

This week as he and Alvarez met for the first time to announce their May 5th rematch, Golovkin said he will make sure to leave no doubt in anyone’s mind.

“I will make it dominant and more obvious this time,” Golovkin said. “I’m not necessarily saying I’ll get a KO, but I would like one. I will do my job in the ring. I cannot control the evaluation of it [judging].”

Golovkin, who is going to be 36 when the bell rings on May 5th, claims that he has nothing to prove in his second fight against Canelo, and that he’s focused on winning the fight. And while he may be seven years Alvarez’ senior when they square off again, Golovkin says his age isn’t going to be a negative factor in their rematch.

“I feel good,” Golovkin said. “I still have my power. I feel great. I have all the motivation in the world for this fight. This is the two best pound-for-pound fighters, fighting each other. The winner will be the pound-for-pound king.”
