Giga Chikadze Ready To ‘Shock’ Edson Barboza
Giga Chikadze feels that Edson Barboza will be stunned to see his striking ability when they highlight a Saturday’s UFC main event at the UFC Apex Center.
The No. 10 featherweight seemed to have already figured out Barboza’s game plan against him.
“I think he will try and take me down. He will start with striking and then he will see the difference in the level of striking we have and he will shoot,” he told BJPenn. “He’ll be shocked when he sees how much better of a striker I am, that we are on different levels.”
Chikadze feels that Barboza will switch to wrestling tactics once he observes how lethal Chikadze can be if the fight goes on while standing.
In his last fight, the Georgian fighter knocked out Cub Swanson in the first round. Featuring in the co-main event to Reyes-Prochazka fight in May, the 33-year-old featherweight grabbed the 13th win of his pro MMA career.
Chikadze is unbeaten since joining the UFC in 2019.
The featherweight has won all four fights he has been offered so far.
Still, some might say No. 9 ranked Barboza is by far the toughest featherweight he will face in the organization. The Brazilian fighter is on a two-fight win streak. He beat Shane Burgos in the last showdown at UFC 262.
