GLORY 25 recap: Petrosyan shines in return, van Roosmalen squeezes by Sitthichai
GLORY 25 MILAN is in the books.
Robin van Roosmalen leaves Italy with the lightweight title he came in with, winning a close decision over Thailand’s Sitthichai Sitsongpeenong in the night’s main event.
It was a tightly contested bout, and the crowd certainly disagreed with the decision, but van Roosmalen threw and landed more blows in the fight and will live to fight another day as the champion.
Despite it not being the headliner, the night’s biggest moment came when Giorgio "The Doctor" Petrosyan made his return to GLORY a successful one by defeating young Canadian Josh Jauncey.
It will be interesting to see if GLORY gives ‘The Doctor’ the opportunity to fight van Roosmalen for the title next, or if they schedule a rematch with Sitthichai. Even more interesting could be a fight between Petrosyan and the Thailand native.
The main card opened with a four-man heavyweight contender tournament that saw Murthel Groenhart beat Karim Ghajji for the crown. Groenhart will now face Nieky Holzken in a title fight at GLORY 26 AMSTERDAM next month.
