GLORY 52: Undisputed Champion Roosmalen
Robin van Roosmalen proved to still be the king of the GLORY Kickboxing featherweights, defeating Kevin VanNostrand to retain his championship in a title unification bout that headlined GLORY 52 in Los Angeles, California.
The bout was not 100 percent of a Roosmalen dominance, however, as VanNostrand was in control of almost all of the opening round. VanNostrand came out aggressive, firing away with speedy combinations and throwing hard knees to the defending world champion’s body. But per usual, Roosmalen’s power came to the stage as the fight progressed. In the second round, Roosmalen began to pressure VanNostrand, attempting to get him trapped in a corner or against the ropes and fire away.
The third proved to be a wild slugfest, with both men throwing flurries and landing hard shots. Roosmalen landed a spinning back kick on VanNostrand’s stomach, but referee John McCarthy ruled it not a knockdown, as VanNostrand was off balance for something other than the kick. Still, there were a few points in the round where VanNostrand may have been in danger.
VanNostrand was clearly in pain from all of the body shots Roosmalen made him eat, specifically a liver punch that occurred early in the round and a kick to the body in the closing seconds. Roosmalen did not let up in the fifth en route to a unanimous decision win.
One judge ruled the bout 48-47 in Roosmalen’s favor, while the other judges scored his win 49-46.

In the co-main event, former middleweight champion Simon Marcus made quick work of Zack Wells. Meanwhile, UFC veteran Chris Camozzi, in his second kickboxing bout and GLORY debut, gassed fairly quick and was defeated by Mike Lemaire.
Lightweights Josh Jauncey and Stoyan Koprivlenski opened the main card in style with a fight that was just about the true definition of equal, leaving kickboxing community members unsure of how to score the bout. A little more production from Jauncey, as well as a bad cut to Koprivlenski’s face, however, gave Jauncey the push for a split decision win.
