Glory Kickboxing just announced a partnership with the Japanese promotion RISE. Just as we have come to know from the Glory Rivals events, which are co-promotions with Enfusion, the Glory Rivals Japan will be RISE contracted fighters battling Glory Kickboxing contracted fighters under Kickboxing rules.
Extreme Fight Game RISE, known simply as RISE, is a Japanese Kickboxing promotion company based in Tokyo, Japan. The name RISE is an abbreviation of “Real Impact Sports Entertainment”. It produces events in Japan, which showcases nine male and three female weight classes. They also promote the Kaminarimon events, which are exclusively open to amateur fighters.
Glory Kickboxing is an international Kickboxing promotion based in Singapore, which is owned by Pierre Andurand. It is one of the largest Kickboxing promotion companies in the world, and features some of the highest-level fighters in the sport on its roster. The company also has international offices in Denver, United States, and the Netherlands.
It is an interesting development, since Japan is a huge market for Kickboxing, with several promotions holding events on a regular basis. In the heydays of K-1, all eyes were on Japan for good reason: Japan is known for being one of the best nations at promoting Kickboxing events – the marketing, the PR and hype, the actual events with pyrotechnics, elegant press conferences and much more.
