Glover Teixeira Confident He Will Get UFC Light Heavyweight Title Shot Against Jan Blachowicz
Glover Teixeira believes UFC president Dana White will give him the next UFC Light Heavyweight Title shot.
Teixeira is on a bit of a resurgence. He is currently on a five-fight winning streak. He has finished his opponents in four of those five fights. As of now, Teixeira is the number one-ranked light heavyweight on the official UFC rankings.
UFC president Dana White has said that he plans on giving middleweight titleholder Israel Adesanya the next crack at the 205-pound gold. He’s having second thoughts after Teixeira’s TKO victory over Thiago Santos.
Speaking to ESPN’s Ariel Helwani, Teixeira said he feels White will ultimately give him the next crack at Jan Blachowicz (h/t Bloody Elbow).
“Dana’s a business guy. He’s gonna do (what’s good for the business). But also, I’m telling you this: he’s a fair man. I see some people complain about Dana; I’ve got no complaints about Dana. … When it comes to business, Adesanya’s gonna make more sense for the UFC. But he knows I deserve that belt. I deserve the title shot.”
Teixeira doubled down on his positive experience with the UFC.
“You look at the staff, the whole staff, from the security to the nutritionists, everybody. Everybody’s happy. They want to be there. They look like they want to be in the UFC. It’s so great to fight in the UFC because the whole staff, they treat you so well. The people are happy to work there. And that says a lot about Dana. He’s a big boss and people are happy to work for him.”
Blachowicz captured the light heavyweight gold with his second-round TKO victory over Dominick Reyes. The title had been vacated after the previous champion Jon Jones decided to move up to the heavyweight division.
