Golden Boy President: Ryan Garcia Is Now Boxing’s A-Side

Golden Boy Promotions President Eric Gomez says Ryan Garcia’s growing popularity has made him the A-side.

Garcia’s commercial pulling power has increased exponentially after his impressive win over Devin Haney. King Ry lived up to his pre-fight comments, saying he would hurt Haney, dropping him three times to secure a majority decision. Garcia has now gone on a music tour with his new song ‘Blessed.’ He has also met Donald Trump, with a huge buzz over his next fight.

Isaac Cruz, Errol Spence Jr., and Sebastian Fundora have been mentioned as possible opponents. Since Garcia cannot make 140, any fight has to be on his terms. The PPV numbers for Haney-Garcia have yet to be released. Garcia’s fight with Gervonta Davis sold over 1.2 million PPVs. If Haney-Garcia does anywhere near that, it will justify the claims that Garcia is now the face of boxing, giving him more leverage. As Garcia offers fighters big paydays, with Haney making $35 million even after losing, Ryan holds all the cards.

“He [Garcia] is the king of the world. He’s got many to choose from – he has earned it. You’ve got to give him that respect. It is something he threw out there. From what I understand, Fundora is not available until late this year. I guess he suffered an injury – so he is not available. It is something we will discuss with him when we sit down. Whoever he wants, whoever he says he wants to fight, we are going to try and make that fight,” Garcia said
