Golden Boy Sending “Hail Mary” Offer To GGG
After 12pm Pt, there was no word on whether or not Gennady Golovkin took the deal to fight Canelo Alvarez on September 15th.
According to ESPN’s Dan Rafael, Oscar De La Hoya would claim that Golovkin didn’t take the deal. “No fight. There is no fight,” De La Hoya told ESPN.
“We want the fight, Tom Loeffler wants the fight. Clearly the only person here who doenst want the fight is GGG. The fans want the fight. We bent over backwards. We’ve come up and there’s no budge from him so there’s no fight. 100 percent there is no fight.”
Yet, less than sixty seconds later, De La Hoya’s statement would be walked back by a Golden Boy representative, as they’re attempting a “Hail Mary” deal they are sending to Golovkin.
Golovkin was offered a 57.5-42.5% split with Alvarez being the A-side for a highly anticipated rematch between the two in September at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada.
While the rematch remains in limbo, Alvarez has begun preparing for a September return to the ring, whether against Golovkin, Daniel Jacobs, or any other number of potential opponents as seen in the video above.
