Golden Boy Wins Purse Bid For Teixeira vs. Castano

We have a purse bid winner for the WBO Junior-Middleweight Title fight between Patrick Teixeira and Brian Castano.

Castano is the mandatory challenger for Teixeira’s WBO gold. At first, Teixeira’s team expressed interest in a battle with Tim Tszyu. WBO president Francisco Varcarcel made it clear that Castano is next in line. The bout was ordered by the WBO.

Golden Boy initially had the rights to this fight but a new purse bid was made following a delay. The promotion has retained those rights after winning a purse bid. Golden Boy put up $427,000 for the rights, beating out TGB Promotions’ $225,100 bid.

Teixeira has a pro boxing record of 31-1. He’s scored 22 knockouts along the way. Teixeira captured the interim WBO Junior-Middleweight Championship with his unanimous decision victory over Carlos Adames. He was later promoted as the main champion.

As for Castano, he is undefeated with a record of 16-0-1. Castano is a former WBA (Regular) Super-Welterweight Champion.

Here’s what Golden Boy president Eric Gomez told BoxingScene.com following the purse bid.

“Patrick Teixeira became a world champion in a tough fight on enemy turf, so we wanted to make sure that his defense would take place on a Golden Boy card. Teixeira deserves it as do all of our world champions.
