Golovkin Opens As Favorite In Canelo Rematch
Days after the rematch was announced, the betting odds have opened for Gennady Golovkin and Canelo Alvarez’ return to Las Vegas on September 15th.
Per Bovada, Golovkin is listed as the early favorite, opening at -190, with Alvarez set as a +155 underdog in the rematch of their highly contested 2017 draw.
While Golovkin will walk into the ring eight years senior to Alvarez, who turns 28 two months before fight night, he’s given the edge due to his performance in their first fight.
Many consider Golovkin to be the legitimate winner of their 2017 showdown, with one judge giving Golovkin a narrow 115-113 victory, another splitting the difference at 114-114, and judge Adelaide Byrd scoring the fight a confusing 118-110 for Alvarez.
This will be Alvarez’ first fight since the Golovkin showdown, as he was suspended in April for failing two drug tests in the lead up to an originally scheduled May 5th rematch with Golovkin.
