Gomez Calls Abel Sanchez A “Crackhead”

The issues between the camps of Gennady Golovkin and Canelo Alvarez have intensified this week, after Eric Gomez, Golden Boy Promotions’ president, made disparaging remarks about Golovkin’s trainer, Abel Sanchez.

Sanchez made a comment following Golovkin’s second round knockout of Vanes Martirosyan, that questioned why Alvarez had not re-enrolled in the WBC’s Clean Boxing Program following failing two drug tests in February.  Sanchez argued that it would be a sign of good faith from Alvarez, after the two failed tests would lead to a six month suspension, and the cancellation of his May 5th rematch with Golovkin.

“Abel is a crackhead, with the s*** that he’s talking,” Gomez told BoxingScene.com on Wednesday during Sadam Ali press event for his fight against Jamie Munguia.

“He’s just talking a bunch of nonsense, making all these accusations, just a bunch of f****** nonsense. He’s got no idea and not everything he says is true. He’s making all these allegations and they’re unfounded. Talk’s cheap. Stop talking and let’s get the fight done.”

Gomez wants to resume negotiations with Tom Loeffler, Golovkin’s promoter, as soon as possible. Loeffler also has claimed that a rescheduled fight between the two is his “top priority.”
