Gonzalez, Braekhus Planned For December HBO Card
Although HBO has no scheduled boxing cards left after October 27, the network plans to have one more event in December and could feature multiple world champions.
The plan is to have WBO junior middleweight champion Jaime Munguia headline an HBO card on December 8, but now according to a report from ESPN, he won’t be the only world champion fighting on the card. The report states that undisputed women’s welterweight champion Cecilia Braekhus and former champion Roman “Chocolatito” Gonzalez also plan to be featured on that card.
Gonzalez has not since beating Moises Fuentes on the undercard of Canelo Alvarez’s majority decision victory over Gennady Golovkin this past September. The win also snapped a two-fight losing streak for Gonzalez, who suffered both losses in 2017 to Srisaket Sor Rungvisai.
Braekhus, the first woman to have a live boxing fight shown on HBO, has been the welterweight division’s longtime undisputed champion. Braekhus has already fought twice this year, with one of her fights being shown live on HBO back in May. Braekhus last fought on July 21 in Moscow, beating Inna Sagaydakovskaya by decision to retain her titles on the undercard of the World Boxing Super Series cruiserweight finals.
No details in regards to the location of the rumored December HBO card, as well as possible opponents for any of the featured fighters, have been announced.
