Gracie Predicts A Submission Win at Bellator 222

A healthy Neiman Gracie is set to face off against Rory MacDonald inside Madison Square Garden on June 14th for Bellator 222. He has a chance to advance into the finals of the Welterweight Grand Prix while also winning the Welterweight World Title from MacDonald. Many are wondering what the result of the fight will be.

The 30-year-old Gracie (9-0) believes he will walk away the victor. Speaking to Bloody Elbow, Gracie predicts his ground game will be a huge factor in the matchup.

“I see myself winning by submission the fourth round,” Gracie stated. “Maybe a rear-naked choke or maybe a flying armbar.”

The nephew of Renzo Gracie beat Ed Ruth via submission in the quarterfinals of the Welterweight Grand Prix back in December. With eight wins via submission, Gracie believes he can expose Rory and move on to face Douglas Lima in the finals.

MacDonald (20-5-1) defeated Jon Fitch in the quarterfinals this past April via majority decision draw. 2-1-1 in his last four fights, MacDonald left some doubts on his fight future following the Fitch bout. He stated he doesn’t have the drive to hurt people as he once did. While Gracie won’t worry about Rory’s state of mind, he will focus on what he himself can do in his next bout. Neiman believes that compared to Fitch, he can stop MacDonald when it matters the most.

“The difference between Jon Fitch and I is if I’m able to get Rory down, the way he did, I’ll go for finishes on the ground,” Neiman went on to say. “When Fitch gets people on the ground, he likes to hold on and wait for the time to pass.”
