GSP To Defend Title With UFC 217 Win

If Georges St-Pierre is able to get past Michael Bisping at UFC 217 at Madison Square Garden, the pride of French Canada is contractually obligated to defend the his UFC Middleweight title.

“I have to defend my title,” St-Pierre told The MMA Hour. “It’s written in my contract. I have to defend my title if I win. That wasn’t my initial plan, but I understand the UFC’s point of view. They want to protect their titles. They don’t want to delay the defense of their titles, because they don’t want to make people wait.”

If St-Pierre gets past Bisping, he would likely face interim middleweight champion Robert Whittaker, who is rehabbing a knee injury in the wake of his unanimous decision win over Yoel Romero at UFC 213 last month in Las Vegas.
