Gustafsson Says Cormier-Miocic Is Playing It Safe For DC

Alexander Gustafsson claims that Daniel Cormier is playing it safe by returning to heavyweight and fighting Stipe Miocic in July at UFC 226.

While many would wonder why moving up a weight class and fighting someone who has six straight wins, with only one of them going to decision, is the safe choice. Alexander Gustaffson told Ariel Helwani, that is exactly what Cormier is doing.

“I’ve been a little bit frustrated because I was counting on the DC fight,” the Swedish striker told The MMA Hour.

“Me and him fighting for the belt again, that was my plan, so I’m a little bit frustrated, a little bit disappointed. He knows I’m here and he knows I’m waiting for him. It feels like he’s just playing it safe, and he has everything to gain in that fight and nothing to lose.”

Gustafsson is looking to avenge a loss to Cormier at UFC 192, and with wins over Jimi Manuwa and Jan Blachowicz, is looking for another shot at the title after injuries set him back.
