Gutierrez Badly Misses Weight, Under Investigation

After not coming close to making the super featherweight limit for a scheduled title eliminator with Oscar Valdez, Andres Gutierrez now faces an investigation by the WBC.

Gutierrez came in at 141 pounds, 11 pounds above the weight limit, for the fight that was scheduled to determine Miguel Berchelt.

The big weight miss earned Gutierrez major criticism and humiliation from around the boxing community, including from Valdez and Top Rank CEO Bob Arum.

WBC President Mauricio Sulaiman announced the investigation, and subsequent suspension, of Gutierrez, calling the situation “embarrassing” — especially when Gutierrez was claimed to be within the boundaries of the sanctioning body’s weight checks.

Valdez will now face Adam Lopez, who was scheduled for undercard action, in the main event of Top Rank’s November 30 card in Las Vegas.
