Hakuho at 7-0, Leading in Kyushu
Yokozuna Hakuho stands alone at the top of the Kyushu Grand Sumo Tournament standings after Day 7, approximately halfway through the basho.
Hakuho is currently the only sumo unbeaten at the tournament, managing to defeat the newly-promoted komusubi, Onosho. Since upsetting yokozuna Kisenosato on the first day of the Kyushu basho, Onosho has struggled to get in the win column.
Entering Saturday, seven wrestlers sat tied behind Hakuho at 5-1, and five managed to improve to 6-1.
One of those wrestlers was the third-ranked maegashira Hokutofuji, who scored his own win over Kisenosato by wrapping the yokozuna around his arms and forcing him to step out of the ring. Kisenosato drops to 4-3.
Despite being charged on early, No. 5 maegashira Arawashi forced out No. 7 Daishomaru to secure a victory and a 6-1 record. Daishomaru falls to 2-5.
Maegashira Aminishiki defeated Takekaze to secure a 6-1 record as well, while Takekaze also falls to 2-5.
Okinoumi and Ichinojo scored their sixth wins of the tournament on Saturday as well, while ozeki Goeido falls to 5-2 after a tough loss to Shohozan.
