Hakuho Pulls Out From Spring Tournament
Following an injury suffered earlier this year, Yokozuna Hakuho has pulled out of the upcoming Spring Grand Sumo Tournament.
Hakuho submitted notice late this week to pull out of the tournament beginning Sunday, due to an injury to his left big toe, which he suffered on the fourth day of the New Year Grand Sumo Tournament in January.
Joining Hakuho in sitting out the tournament will be Kisenosato, leaving Kakuryu as the sole yokozuna competing in the tournament.
While he may not competing in the spring tournament, Hakuho will reach a milestone in the tournament beginning Sunday, as he will become the longest-reigning yokozuna in history.
Hakuho will surpass the late yokozuna Kitanoumi, who held the record of 63 tournaments, as Hakuho will hold the honor for his 64th tournament.
