Haney And Garcia Restart Negotiations

Ryan Garcia and Devin Haney are back in talks for a fight.

The news is a massive turnaround after Garcia initially withdrew from negotiations to face Rolando Romero. But Rolly became frustrated at Garcia’s team for trying to make another fight, while Oscar De La Hoya claimed Romero wanted too much money. Since Romero signed to face Isaac Cruz on March 30 on the Keith Thurman vs Tim Tszyu card, Garcia has found himself going back to Haney, with the aim of putting on a big performance.

“People will be shocked but I will not be shocked and then Devin will be destroyed. His daddy’s gonna have to help him up. I’m telling Bill this. I’m gonna tell him this now. He will have three chances to stop the fight. The first one, if he doesn’t do it then who knows what’s gonna happen. I’m telling you, you’re gonna have three chances to help your son out in the fight. We’re gonna see if you really care about your son,” Garcia said

Haney responded with the following.

Garcia’s reason for initially pulling out was due to a conversation with Floyd Mayweather. Garcia was seen twice in Mayweather’s company at a shopping mall and during a late-night jog. That incident was followed by Garcia declaring his intention to face Romero instead.

Garcia called it the better business move, as Romero offered him a world title in a less difficult fight and the chance to face Haney in a bigger unification. Although the fight broke down, Garcia admitted Mayweather’s influence.

“I’m not going to lie, Floyd’s pretty influential. He’s like, ‘Why would you do that? Why don’t you fight Rolly for the belt and then fight Haney?’ I said, ‘That makes sense, but I told the people already I’m going to fight Devin.’ He said, ‘Some things change.’ I’m paraphrasing, but I quickly decided, ‘Alright, Floyd, that makes sense,” Garcia said
