Haney Back In Training; December Fight Possible
Devin Haney has hinted at his next fight after he returned to training.
Haney is the current WBC Champion in Recess at 140 after vacating his belt following his no-contest with Ryan Garcia. Haney lost the fight via a majority decision after getting dropped three times. However, Garcia failed a test for Ostarine and the result was overturned. Haney vacated rather than face his WBC mandatory Sandor Martin. There was a lack of interest in the fight, with only Top Rank submitting a $2.42 million purse bid. Haney said his commercial value was damaged after the Garcia fight, as he indicated his desire to take a break.
After some words with the Saudis, he could now box on the Oleksandr Usyk and Tyson Fury card on December 21. Haney may move up to 147 to target a third-weight class title. He rehydrates to 160 after making 140, showing that welterweight is doable. He may well chase a credible opponent such as Roiman Villa or Gabriel Valenzuela before facing the big names in Jaron Ennis and Eimantas Stanionis. That could then set up the Garcia rematch, who will be available to box in April 2025.
