Haney–Catterall Fight Moves Closer

A bout between Devin Haney (33-0, 15 KOs, 1 NC) and Jack Catterall (33-2, 14 KOs) continues to gather pace.

A three-division champion, 27-year-old Haney won the WBO welterweight world title when he capped his 2025 with a clear decision win over Brian Norman in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.

He has long been linked with a defense of that belt against Catterall, a 33-year-old English fighter who picked up the regular version of the WBA title when he defeated Shakhram Giyasov by unanimous decision in May.

Catterall’s team is understood to have accepted the fight, including a proposed date of October 3. They are now waiting to receive a contract from Haney’s team, which they have indicated they would sign.

Haney was previously linked with Keyshawn Davis. The WBO mandated purse bid proceedings for Haney vs Davis, but Davis rejected the fight after Top Rank won the right to organize it.

A recent development also saw Liam Paro emerge as a possible opponent for Haney, with Australian promoter No Limit Boxing seeking talks for an October world title unification.

Catterall’s interest now provides Haney with another option in that same October window.
