Devin Haney has been fined $25,000 for his antics at the weigh-in for his fight against Vasiliy Lomachenko.
The American faced Loma on May 20th, 2023, as he walked away with a controversial unanimous-decision win to retain his undisputed lightweight title.
However, a day before the fight, the pair had a heated exchange at the weigh-in. Despite making weight, Haney lashed out at the former three-division champion.
He taunted the Ukrainian by stating he would ‘lose tomorrow’ as he pushed Loma off the stage with a massive shove.
That prompted a chorus of boos from the crowd, as well as during the fight, which caused the Nevada State Athletic Commission to withhold 10 percent of his reported $4 million purse.
That did not go down well with Haney, who felt aggrieved by the decision.
“Get this [privileged] sore loser out of boxing,” Haney said of his longtime divisional rival. “[He] makes excuses as he goes! Take your [loss] like a man & stop crying.
“it was set up for you to win for the 3rd time in your career & you failed! Tell the commission give me my 400k back for that push,” Haney
Now that the dust has settled somewhat, the commission has voted to fine the star $25,000 and pay $326 in legal fees.
But in doing so, Haney may have said goodbye to a rematch with Loma as he ponders a move up to junior welterweight. Time will tell moving forward.
