Haney-Fortuna Purse Bid Called
Less than a week after his first defense of the WBC lightweight title, Devin Haney has been ordered to face his first mandatory defense against Javier Fortuna,
Haney, who was granted the undisputed crown after the WBC anointed Vasyl Lomachenko as the “Franchise” champion of the division, earned a unanimous decision win over Alfredo Santiago during the undercard of KSI’s victory over Logan Paul inside Staples Center.
Due to the circumstances in which Haney went from interim champion to full champion, he must make two mandatory defenses of his title, which will start against former WBA super featherweight champion Fortuna.
Fortuna has won six of his last seven fights, with the sole loss coming from a controversial split-decision loss to Robert Easter in January 2018.
His most recent fight was his second round decimation of Jesus Cuellar in a title eliminator fight on November 2nd.
