The welterweight unification between WBC champion Devin Haney (33-1, 15 KOs) and the WBA champion Rolando Romero (17-1, 14 KOs) has collapsed due to financial disagreements.
Haney terminated negotiations, citing a “delusional” financial structure. According to Haney, the offer required him to wait until $6 million in event expenses were fully recouped before a 50-50 split of the remaining revenue. Haney revealed the contract mandated he earn nothing until the first $6 million in costs was covered. Haney mocked Romero’s inability to “sell” , noting that Rolly has never headlined a gate significant enough to justify such terms. Haney pointed out that Romero never earned a $2 million purse.
“They came to me with a list of expenses of 6 million & I make my first dollar after the 6 million is allocated. & on top of it all, I split it 50% with Rolando, who hasn’t made 2 million in one fight ever,” Haney said
