Bill Haney confirmed that negotiations are officially underway for a title unification between his son, Devin Haney, and Rolando Romero, with a proposed date for May 30 at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn.
Haney (33-0, 1 NC) currently holds the WBO welterweight title, which he secured in November 2025 with a win against Brian Norman Jr. to become a three-weight champion. Despite calls for a Ryan Garcia rematch, Haney’s team appears prioritized on collecting belts. Romero (17-2) enters as the WBA welterweight champion. He shook up the division last May by upsetting Ryan Garcia. The WBA could still throw a wrench in the plans by ordering Rolly to face his mandatory Shakhram Giyasov, although a unification would take priority. Bill says the ball is now in Romero’s court.
“Just got off the phone with Louie DeCuba [Romero’s promoter]. The ball’s back in your court. May 30th. Deebo is coming,” Bill said
