Haney Vs. Romero Unification Fight?

Rolando Romero (17-2, 13 KOs) states he has sent Devin Haney (33-0, 15 KOs, 1 NC) an offer for a 147-pound title unification for May 30.

The proposed bout would see Romero’s WBA title and Haney’s WBO belt on the line, potentially headlining a major card in New York City. The call-out marks a significant period for both fighters. After moving up to welterweight, Haney captured the WBO title from Brian Norman Jr. in November 2025. While he has been linked with a Ryan Garcia rematch, the chance to become a unified champion at a third weight class may prove too lucrative to pass up.

Meanwhile, Romero captured the WBA title after an upset win over Ryan Garcia last May. Romero is expected to be ordered into a WBA purse bid this week for a mandatory defense against Shakhram Giyasov. If Romero and Haney can agree terms before the purse bid advances, the unification fight would take precedence. Devin is also hopeful of making that fight.
