Harris Returns Against Overeem At UFC Portland

Following a tragedy that rocked the MMA community, Walt Harris is set to return to the octagon to face Alistair Overeem at UFC Fight Night 172 in Portland, Oregon on April 11.

Harris (13-7, 1NC) was supposed to face Overeem (45-18, 1NC) back in December, but he removed himself from it following the disappearance of, Aniah Blanchard, his stepdaughter. The 19-year-old went missing in October and was later confirmed dead as a result of a gunshot wound. A man is facing capital murder-kidnapping charges in relation to her death.

The 36-year-old Harris is coming off of a win against Aleksei Oleinik back in July via knockout. The fight only lasted twelve seconds. He is 3-0 in his last four fights with one no-contest. The latter result came from Harris’ fight against Andrei Arlovski back in 2018 after testing positive for Ligandrol, a banned substance.

For Overeem, this is a huge rebound fight. The former Strikeforce and DREAM Heavyweight Champion last fought in Washington, D.C. back in December at UFC on ESPN 7. Facing Harris’ replacement in Jairzinho Rozenstruik, Overeem was knocked out four seconds before the fifth round ended. The 39-year-old needed to get plastic surgery to reconstruct his upper lip following the fight.

UFC Portland takes place inside the Moda Center.
