Harrison-Charlo Cancelled After Injury

Jermell Charlo will have to wait a bit longer to get revenge against Tony Harrison, as the WBC super welterweight champion has suffered an ankle injury.

Charlo aimed to get his title back from Harrison on June 23rd, when the two fighters were set to square off in a PBC on FOX card in Las Vegas.

The Athletic’s Mike Coppinger broke the news Monday that Harrison had withdrawn, with Boxing Scene confirming Harrison is undergoing surgery on June 5th to repair torn ligaments in his ankle.

Pending approval from FOX, it seems Jorge Cota will replace Harrision for Charlo’s return to the ring. on a card featuring lineal super bantamweight champion Guillermo Rigondeaux defend against Julio Ceja.

Harrison won the WBC super welterweight title in December 2018, taking a contested 12-round decision win over Charlo, handing the Houston native his first pro loss.
