Has A New Opponent Been Found For Javier Fortuna?

If all goes according to plan, Golden Boy will be able to provide a fight for Javier Fortuna.

According to Boxing Scene, Fortuna will reportedly face off against Hector Tanajara Jr. This can only be approved by DAZN, who will be streaming the bout. The fight and card will still take place on August 28 from inside the Fantasy Springs Resort Casino in Indio, California.

Fortuna (35-2-1) was originally supposed to face Jorge Linares, but the former WBA and The Ring Lightweight Champion in Linares (47-5) tested positive for COVID-19. Linares is on a two-fight win streak and is 3-2 in his last five fights.

A former WBA Super-Featherweight Champion, Fortuna is 2-1 in his last four fights win one no-contest. His last fight was a TKO win against Jesus Cuellar in November. The 31-year-old has 24 wins via some form of knockout. He was scheduled to face off against Luke Campbell before COVID-19 nixed those plans. Originally set to compete for the interim WBC Lightweight Title against Cambell, Fortuna chose to fight Linares. Now, Campbell will face Ryan Garcia for the opportunity to face Devin Haney.

Tanajara (19-0) made his professional debut in 2015. The 23-year-old won two fights in 2019 after fighting five times in 2018. His last bout was a unanimous decision win over Juan Carlos Burgos in January.

If all goes according to plan, Tanajara will be in fight shape. He was supposed to face off against Mercito Gesta on July 24 on the Vergil Ortiz Jr. v. Samuel Vargas undercard. Gesta, however, ended up getting sick (non-COVID-19 related), forcing the bout to be scrapped.

Stay tuned as more information regarding a potential replacement opponent for Fortuna should be revealed soon.
