Haye: I Want Joshua Next

Former two division world champion David Haye is eager to secure a huge domestic showdown with Anthony Joshua – if the IBF world heavyweight champion defeats Wladimir Klitschko on April 29th at Wembley Stadium.

Joshua (18-0, 18 KOs) vs. Klitschko (64-4, 53 KOs) will also have the vacant WBA, IBO world titles at stake.

Haye (28-2, 26 KOs) has some business of his own to take care of. On March 4th at the O2 Arena in London, he will collide with current WBC cruiserweight champion Tony Bellew (28-2-1, 18 KOs), who is moving up to the heavyweight division.

Last January, Haye snapped a three-and-a-half year layoff with a rapid knockout of Mark de Mori. He following that up with another quick KO win, over Arnold Gjergjaj. Both opponents were very overmatched, even with Haye being 36-years-old and coming off a long stint of inactivity.

"If AJ beats Klitschko, which I and the rest of Great Britain are hoping he does, any time he is ready to do it I am ready," Haye told Sky Sports News HQ.

"I’d have fought him on my first fight back from retirement because I know I can beat him. Hopefully, if he wins, his team will have the confidence – David Haye is the biggest fight on the planet, let’s make it happen. The ball is in his court."

Joshua’s promoter, Eddie Hearn of Matchroom, has named Haye as a possible opponent for the summer – if both boxers win their respective fights.

Joshua will have quite the situation if he wins. There will be two mandatory challengers waiting in the wings. The World Boxing Association has ordered the Joshua-Klitschko winner to make a mandatory defense against Luis Ortiz of Cuba. And the International Boxing Federation has ordered the winner to face Kubrat Pulev. More than likely, a fight with Haye would have to take place at the end of the year.
