Hearn Issues New Demands for Joshua–Fury to Take Place
Matchroom chairman Eddie Hearn has outlined new conditions that would need to be met for Anthony Joshua’s fight with Tyson Fury to take place in New York City.
Joshua is expected to fight his British rival Fury in November. Although no date or venue has been officially confirmed, Madison Square Garden has emerged as the likely location.
Hearn said earlier this month that he would call the fight off if organizers announced Madison Square Garden as the venue without a new agreement in place, maintaining that he and Joshua originally signed for the bout to take place in the UK.
Frank Warren, who has worked with Fury for years, has also said Wembley Stadium in London is the fight’s “natural home.”
Matchroom has now outlined several conditions that would need to be met before agreeing to move the fight from Britain to the United States.
- Zuffa Boxing would not be permitted to promote the event, with Sela instead able to oversee the show. Hearn has previously said Joshua’s existing agreement specifically prevents Zuffa Boxing and associated companies from having a promotional role.
- Matchroom wants Joshua to receive the remaining money owed from his most recent fight, a second-round knockout victory over Kristian Prenga in Saudi Arabia.
- Matchroom also wants several high-profile fights involving its boxers included on the undercard. The proposed bouts include Jesse “Bam” Rodriguez vs. Christian Medina in a bantamweight world title unification, Jack Catterall vs. Keyshawn Davis at welterweight, and WBA heavyweight champion Murat Gassiev against Jarrell Miller.
The latest conditions add another layer to negotiations over a fight that has yet to receive an official date or venue announcement.
