Hearn Keen On Signing Shakur – ‘I Can Make Him A Star’

Eddie Hearn is more interested in signing Shakur Stevenson now that he is a free agent.

Shakur secured a win over Artem Harutyunyan in a successful defense of his WBC Lightweight Title. It was his last fight under Top Rank, as he turned down a $15 million deal for five fights. Shakur’s major problem is making the biggest fights due to his style. His wins over Edwin De Los Santos and Artem produced jeers from the crowd. In the Artem fight, some fans left before the last round.

Tim Bradley criticized Shakur for rejecting $15 million. While he became a three-weight world champion with Top Rank, the big fights failed. The Teofimo Lopez and Vasiliy Lomachenko fights did not happen despite being with Top Rank. Since then, Shakur has had interest from PBC and DAZN. He FaceTimed Mayweather while calling Hearn the best promoter in the world. Now, Hearn has praised Shakur, showing his intent to sign him.

“Shakur Stevenson may be unbeatable. Shakur is brilliant. Sometimes, his style is not all-out aggressive, Arturo Gatti, but guess what? He’s winning these fights, fighting them the way he wants to fight. I think when you see him fight Tank, maybe even Zepeda, you’re going to see the best Shakur Stevenson. I know I can make him a star because that’s easy for me. He rates extremely well on ESPN. As I understand it, it was a really good crowd in Newark. The venue holds 18,000. So, there was not quite a half-full capacity for Shakur-Harutyunyan in Shakur’s hometown,” Hearn said
