Hearn: Miller’s Antics Motivated Joshua
It’s no secret there’s no love lost between unified heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua and Jarrell Miller heading into their June 1 title clash at New York’s Madison Square Garden.
Miller confronted and got into an altercation with the unified champion last year at a DAZN press conference in New York. Meanwhile, at a Joshua-Miller presser held in New York a couple of weeks ago, Miller shoved Joshua and got into his face with insults as the two had to be held apart.
Last week’s presser in London was calmer in comparison, but Eddie Hearn, promoter for Joshua, says he could tell Joshua was feeling hot based on his choice of words.
“Miller pushed his buttons [in New York],” Hearn said. “What he has done has motivated AJ. I’ve not heard him talk like he spoke in this build-up, he was talking about reconstructing Miller’s face. This is not the sort of stuff that you hear AJ say, but that’s good. He carries the spite.”
Joshua is a heavy favorite heading into this title bout, but Hearn assures Miller cannot be taken for granted and written off so easily.
“It’s gonna be a tough fight,” Hearn said. “Miller’s what? 300-odd pounds? He has a great engine, he has a great chin, he has great punch variety. It’s just amazing to be bringing a British heavyweight, the number one heavyweight in the world, to Madison Square Garden on June 1. What a time for the heavyweights.”
