Hearn Claims Ruiz Is A “Great Option” For AJ
While pen has not been put to paper, Eddie Hearn has lined Andy Ruiz Jr up as the next man to face Anthony Joshua for the unified world heavyweight title.
With an official announcement coming sometime on Tuesday, Hearn is expected to have Ruiz Jr as the man to fight for Joshua’s WBA, IBF, IBO and WBO world titles at Madison Square Garden.
Speaking to Fighthype.com, Hearn said: “He will entertain you, give it his all…Even if it means getting sensationally knocked out, he will rather do that than not do it.”
“I couldn’t afford a guy who I thought may not be good enough or game enough to entertain the fans,” the Matchroom promoter said of other potential opponents vying for the title.
“I had to pick a guy in my heart who I thought will do everything to become world heavyweight champion at the Garden.”
This marks Joshua’s first fight since stopping Alexander Povetkin in September of 2018, while Ruiz Jr. last fought two weeks ago in Carson, California for a PBC on Fox card.
