Jack Catterall is set to face Jorge Linares this weekend, though leading up to the matchup, there has been much talk about who Catterall would face next. “I think we all know Linares is a future Hall of Famer and I wouldn’t show disrespect to any opponent by talking about any other fights right now,” shared Catterall last week. Hearn, Catterall’s promoter couldn’t help himself and shared his thoughts on Catterall’s future.
“Jack Catterall wants what he believe he deserves and that’s a shot at the world championship,” said Hearn. “He feels he should be the undisputed champion. You can’t change what happened. It’s in the past, gone. He now wants a shot at the winner of (Haney-Prograis).”
Hearn also recently shared that he would like to schedule a fight between Ryan Garcia and the winner of that matchup as well. Given the landscape of boxing, with Showtime exiting the broadcasting business, and the nature of Garcia’s star power, one would surmise that Heanr would be more inclined to set up that fight, Garcia versus the winner, than he would be to set the stage for Catterall if he is victorious this weekend. With that in mind, Hearn shared another possibility for the Englishman.
“Now, of course, the Josh Taylor (rematch) is the biggest fight to make commercially…I believe he should go on and fight Josh Taylor in a fight that sells out in Glasgow, sells out in Manchester,” noted Hearn.
A rematch for Catterall would be a deserved one, and one that fans will be invested in. Catterall’s energy remains the same, however, and he knows that he can’t take his matchup against Linares lightly.
