Hearn: Usyk-Joshua In-Line For 2020

If Anthony Joshua gets past Jarrell Miller on June 1st, not only will Dillian Whyte, Anthony Joshua, and Tyson Fury be on the waiting list, but undisputed cruiserweight champion Oleksandr Usyk will be in line.

Usyk has been rumored to make the move from cruiserweight to heavyweight following his knockout win over Tony Bellew in 2018, and Eddie Hearn feels that the two fighters he promotes will square off next year.

“No. That fight comes in 2020,” Hearn told reporters when asked if a fight between the two was in the cards for 2019. “Usyk will fight in May, probably in his heavyweight debut, potentially against Alexander Povetkin,” claimed the Matchroom Boxing boss.

“Then he’ll have one more. Then it looks like the WBO will make him mandatory for Anthony Joshua. I see that fight happening in spring 2020.”

Usyk had a career making year in 2018, as he would be the first man to hold all of the current cruiserweight world championships following his winning the World Boxing Super Series against Murat Gassiev, and then finishing Bellew’s career with a ferocious knockout.
