Heavyweight Boxer Danny Kelly Jr Fatally Shot In Possible Road Rage Incident
Maryland authorities are investigating the death of Danny Kelly Jr and are seeking any further information.
Kelly, 30, was killed in front of his girlfriend and three children Friday night while traveling to a holiday dinner, Prince George’s County Police Department said in a statement.
Kelly and his family were heading northbound on St. Barnabas Road when the suspect’s vehicle pulled up next to Kelly’s SUV and “someone inside opened fire.”
The heavyweight boxer was found in the driver’s seat suffering from a gunshot wound. He was pronounced dead a short time later at a hospital, police said.
Kelly’s children and girlfriend were not physically harmed.
“At this time, detectives are looking into whether this was possible road rage,” the statement said. “Detectives are working on identifying the suspect and the suspect vehicle.”
Kelly (10-3-1) had nine knockouts in his professional career.
He last fought in 2019 where he won via TKO over Nick Kisner.
“The children loved him because he was playful,” his grandmother, who was not named, told WUSA. “We loved him because he was always there for all of us.”
