Here’s Why George Foreman Once Repossessed Derrick Lewis’ Car

UFC heavyweight Derrick Lewis, who is set to face Ciryl Gane for the interim title, shared a story not most UFC fans would be familiar with.

The Black Beast revealed that his transition from boxing to mixed martial arts costed him his Buick, which former two-time World Champion George Foreman had gifted him for training under his team.

“I told him, ‘No I don’t think boxing is going to be for me.’ By this time they had already given me a car. They were about to put me up in an apartment across from the gym I was training at in downtown Houston,” Lewis told The Rich Eisen Show.

“I told them, ‘Nah, I don’t want to do boxing. I’m going to stick to MMA’ because I felt like MMA was easier than boxing. So they took the car away from me. It was a Buick anyway,” he added.

Today, just a few years later, Lewis doesn’t have to worry about a car or residence anymore.

Thanks to his performances inside the cage, he drives a Mercedes GTS and will get hands on a Lamborghini Huracan next week, but his wife pushes him to avoid looking lavish.

“She thinks the chicken heads are going to come out of the woodwork — true story,” he said. “The scalawags come out with their little short dresses and all that. Trying to come up to me with the Ronda Rousey lookalike mask and wig and everything trying to holler at me.”
