Higo Misses Weight for Bellator 177 Title Fight

Bellator bantamweight champion Eduardo Dantas was set to defend his title on Friday against Leandro Higo in the headlining spot of Bellator 177. He will still fight Higo in Budapest, but the fight will no longer be a championship bout as Higo has missed weight.

MMAFighting reported the news after an initial tweet by Jason Floyd.

After Dantas successfully made weight, Higo missed the 135 lb. limit by four pounds. He was fined 20% of his purse and the fight will continue as a three-round catchweight bout.

Higo was a former RFA and LFA bantamweight champion. He took the fight against Dantas on a month’s notice, replacing an injured Darrion Caldwell.

This would have been the second title defense of Dantas’s second bantamweight title reign, as he avenged a previous loss to Joe Warren in December.
