Holloway-Aldo 2 Now Headlines UFC 218

UFC 218 reportedly has its new main event already, as Jose Aldo appears to be the one to step in for Frankie Edgar for a title fight against UFC Featherweight Champion Max Holloway, Ariel Helwani reports.

Edgar had been scheduled to be the challenger for Holloway, but it was announced earlier this week that Edgar would be forced to withdraw from the card due to injury.

Holloway and Aldo met back at UFC 212 in June, when Holloway was the UFC’s interim featherweight champion and Aldo, competing in his home country of Brazil, was world champion. Holloway defeated Aldo with a late, third-round TKO to win the undisputed title and increase his win streak to 11.

Aldo was scheduled to compete on the Dec. 16 UFC on Fox card against Ricardo Lamas, which would have been the first time Aldo competed in a non-title bout since 2009. It is unknown what will happen to Lamas at this time.

UFC 218 takes place on Dec. 2 from the Little Caesars Arena in Detroit, Michigan.
