Holloway-Ortega Targeted for UFC 231

UFC Featherweight Champion Max Holloway and Brian Ortega have verbally agreed to face each other on Dec. 8 in the main event of UFC 231 in Toronto, Canada.

Per a report from MMAJunkie, the fight has not been sighed off officially as of yet but is expected to be finalized very soon.

Holloway and Ortega were originally set to meet in the co-main event of UFC 226 back on July 7. But Holloway was pulled from the bout days before the event due to concussion-like symptoms. It was the third time this year that Holloway has had to pull out of a fight due to injury. He was the original replacement opponent for Khabib Nurmagomedov in a lightweight title fight at UFC 223, but he had to pull out due to weight cut issues.

Holloway was set to fight a month prior to this at UFC 222 against Frankie Edgar but was forced out by injury. On that card, Ortega knocked out Edgar in the first round to claim the No. 1 contender spot.

Ortega declined a last-minute bout against Jeremy Stephens at UFC 226 in order to keep his spot in line for a shot at a gold.
