Holm Out of UFC 243

UFC 243’s main card has suffered a blow.

Former UFC women’s bantamweight champion Holly Holm has been forced to pull out of the card, per ESPN. An injury is to blame for Holm’s withdrawal, but the specifics of the injury are unclear at this time.

UFC 243 takes place at Marvel Stadium, and it would have marked the first time Holm returned to the arena of her greatest feat, where she knocked out the then-undefeated Ronda Rousey to win the UFC’s female 135-pound title at UFC 193.

Holm was scheduled to meet Raquel Pennington in a rematch of their UFC 184 fight, which Holm, who was making her UFC debut, won by split decision. That fight, coincidentally enough, was scheduled originally for UFC 181 but had to be delayed after Holm suffered a neck injury.

UFC 243 is headlined by a middleweight title unification bout between Robert Whittaker and Israel Adesanya.
