Holyfield Joins Wilder-Washington Broadcast

One of boxing’s most famous heavyweight legends will be on the commentary team during this weekend’s heavyweight title fight.

Evander Holyfield will join the broadcast team for Deontay Wilder’s title defense against Gerald Washington on Saturday, Premier Boxing Champions announced on Thursday.

Current featherweight champion Abner Mares will also be on the broadcast team for the PBC event.

The fight will take place at the Legacy Arena in Birmingham, Alabama. Like the WBC champ Wilder, Evander Holyfield was born in Alabama. Holyfield has been following Wilder’s career since the champion was on the U.S. boxing Olympic team, for whom he won a bronze medal at the 2008 Beijing Games.

Holyfield’s professional boxing career lasted from 1984 to 2011. He came to fame as the undisputed cruiserweight champion but also won the heavyweight title and became a worldwide star for his two victories over Mike Tyson. Holyfield successfully defended the heavyweight title three times.
