Hooker To Face Ramirez In Unification Bout

The quest for undisputed will be set into motion on July 27 when Maurice Hooker faces Jose Ramirez in Super-Lightweight action.

Hooker will be defending his WBO Super-Lightweight Championship against the WBC Champion Ramirez on Saturday, July 27 at the College Center Park in Arlington, Texas.

This will be Hooker’s (26-0-3) third defense of the WBO belt since beating Terry Flanagan for the vacant belt last June. Following a draw against Darleys Perez in 2016, he has won five in a row. In a press release, Hooker was adamant about what his ultimate goal is in boxing.

“I want to show the world that I’m the best in the 140 lb. division,” Hooker stated. “My dream is to become the undisputed champion in my weight class. This unification fight with Jose Ramirez is a major step towards that goal.”

Ramirez (24-0) will be defending his WBC belt for the third time. He won the title from Amir Iman back in March of 2018 via unanimous decision. The 26-year-old’s last fight was a majority decision win over Jose Zepeda back in February. Like Hooker, Ramirez is also interested in making a name for himself in the 140 lb. division.

“I am ready for my opportunity to unify the titles,” said Ramirez. “To get the opportunity to be a unified champion is a blessing for me. I’m thankful to Bob Arum and Top Rank for believing in me to go out there and get the job done. I’m going to push myself hard to make the team proud.”
