Hopes Are Up For Canelo-Kovalev
Canelo Alvarez’s quest for another world title seems to be in-play, as Sergey Kovalev’s team is optimistic about a fight on November 2nd.
With a catchweight fight not on the table, the WBO light heavyweight champion may put his belt on the line against Alvarez, who could win a world title in his fourth weight class.
A deal was negotiated between both sides for a fight in September for what was to be Alvarez’s annual Mexican Independence Day weekend campaign, but Kovalev felt indebted to fight his mandatory challenger Anthony Yarde.
Speaking with Sky Sports, Kovalev’s lead promoter Kathy Duva, was optimistic a deal would be done, and Kovalev admitted to the British news outlet that there was a substantial offer to fight in September.
Now, with Kovalev taking care of Yarde, and Alvarez still without an opponent, that substantial offer may be back in play, as DAZN views Kovalev as the most intriguing opponent for the middleweight and super-middleweight titleholder.
