How Azamat Murzakanov Turned UFC Debut Around

Azamat Murzakanov knew what he needed to do.

UFC Vegas 50 was opened by a light heavyweight matchup between Murzakanov and Tafon Nchukwi. Just 44 seconds into the final round, Murzakanov landed a flying knee knockout and earned a $50,000 Performance of the Night bonus.

“In the second round, it wasn’t going my way, and I knew I lost maybe that round,” Murzakanov said in the post-fight news conference.

“And for the third round, I came out with the thought, with the plan, ‘Do or die in this cage. I’m going to give all,’ and this is what happened.

Murzakanov is an undefeated fighter with 11 victories.

He made his debut Saturday where he shared the octagon with experienced fighter, Nchukwi. His plan did not hold the first two rounds. The first round was very close, and judges scored that round differently, but Nchukwi landed more significant strikes in the second round.

“From the start, it wasn’t going according to plan. He was an awkward opponent for me. It was difficult. I couldn’t find the rhythm,” Murzakanov added.

“Also, he was stronger physically than I expected. But for me, the most important is the final result – the finish.”
