How Close Is Stipe Miocic To Returning To The UFC?

After almost a year away, Stipe Miocic might just be ready to compete again.

Miocic (19-3) took to Twitter late Sunday, informing the world “the time has come” for him to return to the octagon. Daniel Cormier, who has been calling out Miocic for a while now, couldn’t help but respond. He shared his excitement while also informing him he was coming for the UFC Heavyweight Title.

The current UFC Heavyweight Champion suffered an eye injury at UFC 241 last August against Cormier. This was after he beat him to regain the title Cormier took from him. He appeared to be ready to go, but when the coronavirus pandemic hit his fight career was set to pause. A first responder, Miocic put his focus on his family and his home state of Ohio.

With gyms looking to reopen soon, Miocic appears to be getting back in fight shape. Cormier (22-2, 1NC) is currently 3-1 with one no-contest in five fights. He has been tired of waiting for Miocic and was interested in facing Francis Ngannou for an interim title. Ngannou (15-3), who just beat Jairzinho Rozenstruik at UFC 249 in 20 seconds, put his two cents in. He told them to leave their fighting in the ring, not on Twitter.

“It’s been almost a year now so stop fighting on social media and sign the contract on your desks and let’s move on.”

Miocic has beaten Ngannou before; a unanimous decision win at UFC 220 back in 2018.

UFC President Dana White has not yet announced plans for a specific date for a Miocic-Cormier trilogy fight.
