How Close Was Tyson Fury Vs. Mike Tyson To Actually Happening?

Over the past few weeks, Mike Tyson has managed to make headlines by announcing his return to the ring. Preparing for charity exhibition bouts, “Iron” Mike (50-6, 2NC) has had his camp reach out to people, while others are reaching out to him. An active fighter and the current WBC Heavyweight Champion recently received an offer to face Tyson.

Speaking with BT Sport, Tyson Fury talked about how he was offered to face Tyson.

“I did get a phone call with a chance to fight Mike Tyson… I got a phone call saying ‘Would you like to fight Mike Tyson in an exhibition fight?’ I was like ‘Hell yeah!’ I don’t think anything has materialized out of it, to be honest,” Fury stated.

At 20, Tyson became the youngest heavyweight champion of all time. The 53-year-old Tyson’s last fight was in 2005, a losing effort against Kevin McBride. He has since received numerous offers to return to the ring, whether it be in boxing, MMA, or bare-knuckle competition. Joining him is Evander Holyfield, who announced his intentions to come back for the first time since 2011.

Fury (30-0-1) has commended Tyson’s comeback but doesn’t think he should be facing the top fighters today due to his age. He did state, however, that someone like Tyson is more than capable of doing whatever he wants, as long as he is happy.

“They’re (Holyfield and Tyson) both old now… they’re a bit long in the teeth, but then who am I to say anything about what anyone’s capable of? I wouldn’t try to kill anybody’s dreams of doing anything they want. If they’re both medically fit then let them do what they’ve got to do,” Fury went on to say. “It’s their life, not mine.”

Back in February, Fury beat Deontay Wilder in a rematch from their 2018 bout. Knocking him down twice, Wilder’s corner threw in the towel. As a result, the lineal heavyweight champion in Fury also became WBC Heavyweight Champion. He is currently scheduled to face Wilder in a trilogy bout. With a win, Fury would be one step closer to one of Tyson’s accomplishments: undisputed champion.
