How Much Will Mike Tyson Vs. Roy Jones Jr. Reportedly Cost?

While the fight between two boxing legends will be an exhibition bout, the cost for it will feel like it is a legitimate affair.

According to The Athletic, the eight-round contest between Mike Tyson and Roy Jones Jr. on September 12 will cost $49.99. Fans will be able to watch the event through PPV via cable, satellite, and Triller. Tyson will be producing the fight via his debuting Legends Only League.

Jones recently stated that he will receive a 50-50 split of PPV proceeds with Tyson, who mentioned the money will be going to various charities. This comes after Jones rejected a $40 million payday to face Tyson in the early 2000s.

Triller, known for music and short videos (almost like TikTok), will be diving into the sports scene. All of this comes after Triller reportedly paid (via CNBC) about $50 million for exclusive streaming rights for the exhibition. The company will create a ten-part docuseries leading up to fight night. Investors of the company include Snoop Dogg and Pitbull.

Tyson (50-6, 2 NC) made his professional debut in 1985 and quickly rose up the ranks in the boxing world. He ended up knocking out Trevor Berbick in the second round of their fight in 1986 to win the WBC Heavyweight Title. “Iron” Mike became the youngest world heavyweight champion of all time at 20. His last fight as a pro was a loss at the hands of Kevin McBride in 2005. The 54-year-old created headlines when he announced his intentions to return to the ring a few months ago.

Jones (66-9) won the IBF Middleweight Title in 1993 against Bernard Hopkins. He then moved up in weight to light-heavyweight, where he won the WBA, IBO, WBC, and IBF Light-Heavyweight Titles. “Captain Hook” became the first middleweight champion to win heavyweight gold in 2003, beating John Ruiz via unanimous decision. He ended his career on a four-fight win streak in the cruiserweight division in 2018.

When comparing the price of the event to other fights, this past February’s Deontay Wilder v. Tyson Fury rematch required you to spend $79.99, while the highest you could pay for Floyd Mayweather v. MMA star Conor McGregor was $99.00.

The fight between Tyson and Jones will take place inside the Dignity Health Sports Arena in California.
